Sophia Flood / the presence in paint

Sophia Flood (b. 1984, Ipswich, MA) creates works built through a tactile language of stains, scrubbed brush marks, material residue, and dry veils of color. Drawing from a range of sources rooted in geology and place, Flood works through moments of inversion and collapse, negotiating between map and terrain. By abandoning fixed source material in favor of intuitive structure, her images slowly re-emerge through interwoven layers. Flood has exhibited at Babst Gallery; Shulamit Nazarian; Curve Line Space; Elsa Lee Bruno; Sadie Halie Projects; Spring Break Art Fair; Torrance Shipman Gallery; and Herter Gallery, among others.
