KIM DE JESUS / this is now

March - May 2025

Kim DeJesus (b. 1981, Wheaton, Illinois) creates abstract paintings distinguished by rich color and atmospheric layering, working across acrylic, oil, and mixed media. Rooted in the traditions of American abstraction, her practice employs techniques such as layering, pouring, blotting, and dripping to build expansive surfaces that explore nature, visual perception, and the human psyche. Drawing from movements including Abstract Expressionism, Color Field painting, and Action Painting, DeJesus brings an intuitively driven feminist perspective to her work, unlocking abstraction as both a formal and poetic language.

DeJesus lives and works in Los Angeles. She received her BFA from Arizona State University, where she was a recipient of the Katherine K. Herberger Painting Scholarship.
